Celebrating 40 years of fighting EB

Celebrating 40 years of fighting EB

Last night DEBRA celebrated their 40th anniversary – 40 years of helping people suffering from Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) and funding research into effective treatments and a cure for the condition.

EB is a group of genetic skin conditions which cause the skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch.

It was an amazing evening both emotional and educational. DEBRA also introduced their new president onto stage, non other than Simon Weston CBE, who through his own experiences, has an enormous empathy with sufferers of EB.

It is hard to believe that 40 years ago little was known about EB. Now DEBRA sit in the top 1000 UK charities and Over 30 of the genes that cause EB have been identified. There are now over 50 DEBRA groups around the world and potential treatments for the condition are entering human clinical trial stage for the first time.

We are really proud and privileged to have DEBRA included on our CSR Accreditation assessment panel.
